Police officer training

Training for police officers can take as little as 2 years and at most 3. It depends if the student takes full or part-time classes. Students learn numerous techniques in firarms, special driving and procedures.

When applying for school, students need to be 18 years of age. Students need to bring identification when applying. The school needs to know that the student is a U.S. citizen. Students are able to take a 4 to 5 week pre-training program which, touches on critical aspects of law.

Students should enroll in a preparatory law enforcement officer training program. The school needs to be approved by the state law enforcement standard board. Some technical schools offer standard board approved programs. The University of Phoenix offers a great program.

Police Officer Training

Classroom work- Students learn how to arrest, book, and report writing. It is important for students to be thorough on a case. If the officer forgets a procedure or does something incorrectly, the case can be dropped. Students study ethical issues, to understand how to properly assess an issue.

Driving training- Future officers learn how to handle a car in a pursuit. They learn techniques in high speed chases without hurting others. If the officer is able to reach the speeding car. They take the nose of the cop car and push it on the left or right side, on the back bumper of the car. This action makes the perpetrators car swerve out of control.

Firearm training- Students are required to complete target practice training. They will learn how to use handguns, automatics and rifle. The training for firarms is a career long study. Officers constantly improve their techniques.

Physical training- Students will develop muscle strength, flexibility and cardio endurance. Students will work on their physical fitness throughout the academy. At the end of the school, students will be expected to meet certain bench marks. This includes learning hand to hand combat.

Training for police officers can be tough but, it is highly rewarding. Students need to be highly efficient and know everything there is to know about their job.
