FBI lifestyle

FBI lifestyle is something few people know about. Unless the person works in the field or is married to an FBI agent. A FBI agent lifestyle is diverse and demanding. Each day carries a new experience that will challenge the agent. Schools for criminal justice and criminal investigation can not prepare agents for what they will experience. Agents need a year to integrate into the career. An agent needs to have morals, good judgment and discretion, to be successful in their career.

FBI Agent Lifestyle

The lifestyle of an FBI agent is not easy. The application process is one of the most selective and rigorous in the nation. Once they are in the bureau it doesn’t get any easier. Each day is different. Those who are in the scientific field work with private labs collecting and analyzing evidence. Others who work in the professional field have a variety of different tasks.

FBI agents have limited power, when it comes to making an arrest. They have no power to punish their suspects. In most cases, FBI agents are moved to another case before the arrest takes place. When another agency comes to make the arrest, the FBI agent who helped the case is invited back.

Agents tend to work alone. In some cases they will have a partner. Agents usually are unaware of how long a job will last. In some cases this can lead to a feeling of isolation. Agents will be left alone for weeks or even months on a job, without hearing from anyone.

An agent travels frequantly. This is hard when having a family back home. The agent is unable to tell his family where he/she is going and when they will return. The job has to be kept secret. In other words, not to jeopardize the case. Not knowing where or when the next job is can be exciting, yet frustrating for an agent.

The FBI lifestyle might be difficult but only 4% of agents leave each year. This is not including the number of retirees. There must be somthing that make agents stay in their field.

FBI agents prepare for this lifestyle by obtaining a liberal arts degree and going on to get a 4 year degree in law. It takes several months of preparation to try out for the FBI academy after college. If the agent succeeds they are able to become part of the bureau.
