CIA agent
During these ten long years of war, we have heard of the CIA helping in covert operations. Listening to intel, to discover the hide outs of Osama Bin Laden and Saddam Hussain. We hear about these people, but who are they? What is a CIA agent and where did the CIA originate from?
CIA stands for Central Intelligence Agency. The group originated in 1947 and is an intelligence agency for the U.S. government. Created under the National Security Act of 1947. The CIA was made to protect home and abroad from sabotage. Although contradictory, the CIA will create sabotage in hopes to gather information to help are country. They also work on evacuation measures, underground resistance movement, and support anti-communist elements in the free world.
When looking at the CIA protection act, it seems to be a bit archaic. This is because they were created during WWII. When the threat of communism was a very real aspect. The CIA then and today, specialize in ways to create “safe evacuations” for the president, if there is a threat to our nation. (Today the CIA specailizes in our technological advances, such as cyber intelligence.)
The CIA was a successor of the OSS(office of strategic services). The group coordinated espionage activities against other parties in power. They were used to help the army in warfare.
CIA was one of the only intelligence agencies until 2004. The Director of National Intelligence was created by the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act. Now CIA agents report their information to the Director of Intelligence. This way intelligence is eather proven or debunked before taken into consideration.
A CIA agent collects evidence and tries to dicipher the truth much like a job in criminal justice. They gather information by using psychology, cyber and social intel. This information can be collected from foreign government, corporations and individuals. If any of the intel questions American security, it is reported to the Director of Intelligence. By sharing this information they can prevent warfare from occuring.
Too obtain this information, CIA agents need to conduct covert operations and paramilitary action. While some CIA agents work in computer forensics others are out in the field working undercover. CIA agents are placed all over the world to collect intelligence on those who seek to undermind the U.S..
Students who are interested in the CIA have many years of preparation. Students usually prepare as early as highschool. College students can apply to work with the CIA, in a student work program. Students are able to apply on line for various positions, such as: Analytical, Language, Science and Engineering & Technology.
